Now for the first time Senqu Trails offers easy accessible hikes to the region well known as the Mnweni Cutback area. The escarpment of the Northern Drakensberg is regarded as the most dramatic, remote and beautiful part of the berg and it is also known for the extreme ascents thru passes like Icidi and Fangs.
Now Senqu Trails make the access to this region easy and accessible to all hikers and provides pack horses to carry your load. With the Trans Frontier Park our access point to this region is made possible from the Lesotho side via livestock trails from local villages Our base is at Ha Mapoka situated in an idyllic setting on the bank of the Kubelu River at an elevation of 2300m. ‘Mapoks’ comprises as a camp site supported by basic facilities with direct access to river, fly fishing, pony rides, mountain biking trails and guided day hikes to the Solane waterfall and a thermal spring bubbling out of the ground and cascading into the river With a fly camp on the escarpment situated at Mponjwane/Rockeries you can go on various hikes north towards Mount Aux Source the Mnweni Buttress (3016m) and the Twelve Apostles (3148m) and South to the Cleft peak and Cathedral Peak areas. Please contact us to custom build a trek to your requirements. Participant Requirements:A minimum of 8 hikers is needed for trek. Book your own group of 8 or join other hikers. Trekkers must be of at least average trekking fitness for all trekking is taking place above 2400m. Expect long days of off-trail walking. You will need to carry a day bag with your basic food and equipment needed for the day’s trek.Catering:Trekkers have to be self sufficient (bring your own food).Equipment:You will require full overnight trekking equipment for mountain conditions and appropriate clothing for all 4 seasons. Tents are required as space in Mponjwane cave is limited. Trekkers are restricted to 15kg per person on the pack horses. Saddle packs will be issued to load your equipment for the trek. Baggage is limited to 60l volume and 15kg weight.
